Purpose:  Designs, builds, tests and deploys Infrastructure assets such as servers, hosts and networking devices to meet or exceed service expectations, and ensure proper operation and availability.  Control and administer hardware and operating software configurations

  • Average 5 years prior experience in systems analysis and engineering
• Detailed knowledge and experience with:
• Microsoft technologies,
• Virtual Machine technologies
• Citrix
• IBM iSeries 400
• Phone/PBX systems/VoIP systems
• Server, network storage, and network hardware components
• Experience in managing a geographically dispersed environment a plus.
• Knowledge of Active Directory and network services (DNS, DHCP, and WINS).
• Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design.

*Specific experience with Cisco networking & VoIP hardware, Compellent SAN technologies, or enterprise software (such as Microsoft Systems Center Suite, Exchange, SQL) a plus.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Analyze information to determine, recommend, and plan layout, including type of hardware and peripheral equipment modifications.
• Analyze user needs and recommend appropriate hardware.
• Confer with engineering staff and consult specifications to evaluate interface between hardware and software and operational and performance requirements of overall system.
• Design and develop computer hardware and support peripherals, including servers, support logic, microprocessors, custom integrated circuits, and storage devices.
• Evaluate factors such as reporting formats required, cost constraints, and need for security restrictions to determine hardware configuration.
• Monitor functioning of equipment and make necessary modifications to ensure system operates in conformance with specifications.
• Test and verify hardware and support peripherals to ensure that they meet specifications and requirements, analyzing and recording test data.
• Write detailed functional specifications that document the hardware development process and support hardware introduction.
• Assemble and modify existing pieces of equipment to meet special needs.
• Provide technical support to other team members throughout the product development and implementation process.
• Update knowledge and skills to keep up with rapid advancements in computer technology.
• Detect, diagnose, isolate and correct device operational failures
• Support Incident and Problem Management activities with device expertise and troubleshooting
• Maintain awareness of new technologies that might enhance device operation, capacity and performance
• Investigate, diagnose, and take prescribed actions on all operational events, alarms and incidents
• Ensure that all routine maintenance tasks are completed on all operational infrastructure assets
• Create documentation required to ensure that all infrastructure equipment is maintained according to policies and recommendations.
• Perform and/or coordinate IT equipment setup and breakdown activities
• Monitor hardware maintenance levels and coordinate updates with vendor suppliers when necessary
• Coordinate physical equipment installation, moves and repairs including with 3^rdparty vendors as needed
• Ensure hardware is placed and operated in an environment that is in compliance with vendor standards for proper operation
• Coordinate system development tasks to include design, integration  and  formal testing
• Oversees all transitions into production
• Create and maintain programmatic and technical documentation to insure efficient planning and execution
• Manage and document system configurations
